Showtime for the Apollo: Work begins on Whole Foods-anchored H Street development
More than three years in the works, Insight Property Group has broken ground on a $189 million mixed-use development called the Apollo that will bring a Whole Foods market and more animation to the H Street corridor between Union Station and the Atlas District in Northeast D.C.
Insight started work earlier this month after receiving permits to tear down the familiar former Murry’s site in the 600 block of H Street to make way for a nearly 40,000-square-foot Whole Foods grocery, an additional 35,000 square feet of retail space and 431 apartment units. For Insight President Michael Blum, the project is a chance to advance the area’s ongoing revitalization. The project, designed by SK&I Architectural Design Group LLC, is slated for completion in the second quarter of 2017, though the first residents could begin to move in in late 2016.
