The Shelby Artists: Dominique Fierro
An intrinsic element of The Shelby community is the people that helped to create it. These ‘artists and craftsmen’ are the people that have actualized our vision. It is important to us that we share with you the stories behind the talented people that have dedicated their time to creating a place for you to call home.
Welcome to our new series, The Shelby Artists.
MEET: PHOTOGRAPHER, DOMINIQUE FIERRO
If you have not had the pleasure of experiencing the photography of Dominique Fierro, you are truly missing out! Dominique has mastered Experiential Photography, the practice of finding the perfect balance between fine art portraiture photography, without sacrificing the authenticity of a natural candid moment. When Dominique fell in love with the art of photography, she knew her camera would never leave her side. As you can see through her work, it is her true passion and first love.
Every photograph in Dominique’s portfolio evokes an array of emotions as you view her work. She is an incredibly dynamic photographer that captures the soul of her subject in ways that no other photographer can accomplish. She captures the inner and outer beauty in all of her Clients from behind her lens. Dominique prides herself on capturing candid moments that tell stories. She seeks to empower others to explore self-expression and confidence through her Photo Therapy Sessions, which is where the majority of our her work in The Shelby originated.
Dominique is an award-winning photographer that lives and works in Bethesda, Maryland. Her work has been featured in DC Modern Luxury Magazine, Bloomingdale’s, Neiman Marcus, Capitol File Magazine, several local galleries, and DC area restaurants – to name just a few. You NOW get to experience her work in The Shelby.
We recently had the opportunity to speak with Dominique about her work featured in The Shelby.
1. What piece(s) do you have in The Shelby?
I have 4 photographs that are currently in The Shelby. Two of my pieces, ‘BOX’ and ‘GRIT’ are featured near the gym and the other two pieces (pictured below) can be found in The Shelby Lobby. I have also taken the photographs that will be screenprinted on pillows in collaboration with SwatchRoom.
2. What was the inspiration behind these pieces?
Originally, these pieces were commissioned images for one of my Photo Therapy Sessions. I offer these sessions for women and couples. It’s a great way to have artistic candid photos taken in a very comfortable environment. This particular Client wanted an Americana themed shoot, which worked beautifully for the theme of The Shelby.
3. What does ‘Americana’ mean to you?
To me, Americana means natural, raw, and proud.
You can view more of Dominique’s work on her website. We recommend following her on Facebook and Instagram. If you are interested in a Photo Therapy Session or would like to purchase her work, you can contact her directly: photofierro at aol (.) com.
